Heidi + Hayden

Good things happen in the prairie.

Heidi is my dear cousin. We both grew up in Illinois, and here we both are, transplanted into a small Kansas town. It’s been fun watching her relationship with Hayden grow over the years. And it was even more fun taking their engagement photos last Sunday.

Never let those haters hate. That Kansas sunshine is pure gold.

Conrad at 6 months

I think the Heinzekehr kids have it out for me.

I joke. I joke.

But seriously, these kids have a thing about glaring at my camera lens at every photo shoot we try to do. (And I see pictures on Facebook of them smiling away. So I do know it’s possible).

On Saturday, I met Hannah, Ellie and baby Conrad at the park for another photo shoot. This time featuring Conrad who is turning 6 months old. I am actually amazed that things went so well, what with Conrad knowingly smirking at me and the horde of mosquitoes that attacked.

Maybe eventually they will warm up to me. In the meantime, I am glad that we did get a couple of good ones.

Malakai is 2

Yes, my little baby nephew (who is all over this blog) is 2 years old already. His birthday is at the end of August, but we took this photo shoot on a very October-y day in Asheville NC. He is quite different then the little baby whose photos I took, but he is just as cute as ever. Frey-Reyes Wedding

Last weekend, I found myself driving to northwest Ohio to take photos for my dear friend Laura and her soon-to-be husband, Israel.

I met Laura in college. It was our first year at Bluffton University. We were sitting in the hallway for some sort of required RA check in, when she asked me, “Hey are you Aaron Yoder’s sister?” (Turns out my brother had interned at her church the summer before).

From that moment on we were linked and our general connection eventually grew into a beautiful friendship and continued for four years, living as “neighbors” just down the hall.

I often miss living that close to my Bluffton friends, but am so grateful that my friendship with Laura has gone beyond the bounds of Bluffton.

It was actually quite amazing. The summer before, I had gone up to Pettisville, Ohio to visit Laura. We were hanging out in the pool when she told me about this guy from her gym who wanted to take her out on a date. She wasn’t so sure.

Fast forward a year later and I found myself taking photos at their wedding.

It’s funny how life works out.

I was grateful to be a part of their day.
